Who Is Responsible for a Water Leak?

Responsibility depends on where the leak is located. A few observations can help explain what you are seeing.

Start at the property

Check whether the leak appears to be at a fixture, on visible private pipework or somewhere in the yard.

With water use stopped, meter movement can be a useful clue. Do not interfere with the meter or infrastructure.

A plumber can investigate private plumbing. A suspected issue at or before the meter may need the relevant water authority.
